I recently interviewed for the Director, Reliability and Validation position at Peloton, and I’d like to share my experience to help you prepare for a similar interview. Below, I will detail the interview process, the types of questions asked, and what to expect based on my own experience.

Interview Process Overview

The interview process for the Director, Reliability and Validation position at Peloton consisted of several rounds. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

1. Initial Recruiter Screening

This is a short conversation with a recruiter where you’ll discuss your background, experience, and interest in the role. It’s mostly a chance for the recruiter to assess if your skills align with Peloton’s needs. They will also gauge your cultural fit and ability to handle the pace of a rapidly growing company.

They wanted to assess my experience with validation testing and reliability methodologies, particularly how I apply those in a real-world context to complex electromechanical products.

The key areas they focused on included:

  • Testing Methodologies: I was asked to explain my experience with various reliability testing methods like HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing), HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening), and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis). They were particularly interested in how I used data from these tests to drive design decisions and improve product quality.
  • Automation: One of the core topics was my experience in transitioning from manual to automated testing processes. They asked about the challenges I faced and how I overcame them, particularly in scaling testing efforts for a high-volume, rapidly evolving product.
  • Leadership and Cross-functional Collaboration: Since this role involves leading a team and collaborating across hardware, software, quality, and product teams, I was asked about my experience in managing large teams and working cross-functionally to align testing strategies with broader product goals.

3. On-site or Virtual Technical Presentation

In the next stage, I was asked to present a case study or a project I led that involved reliability and validation testing. I was expected to walk them through the process, from defining the testing strategy to the final results and how those results influenced product design.

I showcased how I identified reliability issues early in the design process, collaborated with engineering teams to fix them, and continuously improved test protocols based on feedback from real-world usage.

4. Behavioral Interview

The final round involved behavioral questions aimed at understanding how I handle leadership challenges, work in a fast-paced environment, and align my team with the company’s overall goals.
